Nina Rangoy

I have had the pleasure of attending four photography workshops with Nina Rangøy, three in Venice and one in London.

Over a period of ten years, I have completed a number of courses and workshops with various teachers, but after my first workshop with Nina, I have prioritized attending these.

The reason is that, in my opinion, they maintain a significantly higher level, and that her approach is different from the others I have attended (who have also been renowned photographers).

The most important difference is the systematic, educational approach she applies, and that practical photo assignments are linked with relevant theory. Whether the theme is street photography, documentary, capturing the light in the "blue hour" or portrait photography; before each task, she goes into detail about what the challenges will be, gives us specific advice - also in the form of written checklists, and evaluates afterwards whether we have followed them.

The feedback on completed tasks (image review) is clear, strict - but always constructive, and with kindness and warmth. She uses her own extensive experience as a photographer in combination with good teaching skills to convey the requirements for a good photograph.

I especially appreciate that she always sets aside time for a one-to-one conversation. For me, those conversations have almost been worth the price of the workshop alone, partly because they have helped me to look at my own photos with new eyes.

Nina is also the only one of the series of workshop teachers I have had, who makes a thorough survey of each individual participant, through an extensive questionnaire that she sends out in advance. It makes her know us; our strengths and weaknesses.

Nina makes high demands on the participants in her workshops, but even greater demands on herself as a teacher.

I would like to give Nina Rangøy my very best recommendations.

Nina Rangøy is an inspiring instructor with excellent pedagogical skills, something I have experienced through several courses, both in London and Venice.

I am a master in hair and makeup, having worked with form and color for 30 years. Through my work, and later during a 3-year art education and specialization in photography as a student at Bilder Nordic School of Photography, I have participated in many courses and lectures, both in Norway and abroad, and I rank Nina Rangøy as one of the very best. She is always very well-prepared and puts in a lot of effort both before and during the courses. In addition to being highly knowledgeable, she has a unique ability to include all participants, regardless of their prior knowledge, ensuring that everyone benefits and develops, while also creating a pleasant social environment within the groups.

Nina Rangøy is gentle in her approach, but at the same time, clear, and she requires participation and effort from everyone, so that each individual reaches their potential. She is creative and seeks growth, and has a unique ability to make people feel comfortable both in front of and behind the camera. Her extensive network of contacts has contributed to her courses always being exciting and professionally enriching, while they are continuously evolving. Nina Rangøy’s courses have provided me with great professional value and have developed me both as a photographer and as a person.
